You are invited to drop in on Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 10.00 to 12.00 and visit with Rignald Lakker, the self-taught sculptor of the twenty-six wooden sculptures in our NEW exhibition INTERIOR
Observe the intricate, complicated, and brilliant inspirations that emerged from Rignald Lakker’s interior. To quote Mr. Lakker ‘Everything comes from’ and we agree, As Within, So Without.
An interesting fact about one of Rignald’s sculptures is the fact that the wood used for the base of this particular sculpture is a piece of discarded wood that was used to make the replica of the Batavia, a VOC ship that sunk at sea in 1629. This piece of wood traveled with Rignald all the way to Curacao and is now part of a sculpture on show in our Museum! You might wonder how Mr. Lakker came by this piece of wood. Well Rignald actually helped make the replica (1985 – 1995) of the Batavia!
Feeling creative? Rignald invites you to be inspired by his sculptures and give them a title because he hasn’t.
See you soon at The Curaçao Museum!
