Prince Bernhard Caribbean Cultural Fund and Fundashon Pegasaya present
An evening of films in honor of the grand dame of film, Rina Penso.

On Saturday October 7th the films Ava & Gabriel (dir. Felix de Rooy) and La Dama Blanca (dir. Guus de Sain) will be shown in Teatro Luna Blou.

Previously the films Almacita di Desalato (dir. Felix de Rooy) and Boka Sarantonio (dir. Pacheco Domacassé) would have been shown on October 6th, but due to insufficient ticket sales this evening has been canceled.

Ava & Gabriel and La Dama Blanca provide beautiful insights of the changing times, sentiment and development of cinema in Curaçao.

Ava y Gabriel
Set in Curacao in the 1940s, Ava & Gabriel: A Love Story tells of the painter Gabriel Goedbloed, who arrives from Holland to paint a mural of the Virgin Mary in a local church. Gabriel is black, originally from Surinam. The colonial Antillian society proves less than tolerant towards him, especially after he chooses as his model a young Black teacher, Ava.

La Dama Blanca
La Dama Blanca is a film adaptation of the play of the same name. A classic rendition that focuses on the longing for unrequited love.The main character played by Rina Penso cherishes the past. She reminisces her great love. Her butler Sancho, played by Giovanni Abath, is determined to pull her back to the present. The playful interaction between them leads to some comic award moments.
