Landhuis Bloemhof proudly presents Joys of Life, an evocative solo exhibition by Curaçao-born artist Rose-Ann Ignacio. Known for her dynamic and playful approach to Pop Realism, Rose-Ann offers a vivid exploration of life’s pleasures through her distinctive style, combining candy-colored allure with provocative undertones. The opening tomorrow Friday, November 8, from 7 PM to 9 PM will feature a live performance by Tittel del Mar and Philip Rademaker.

Fulltime artist

Rose-Ann, a self-developed artist with a lifelong passion for painting, made the leap to become a full-time artist, captivating audiences with her bold use of color and layered themes. Working primarily in acrylics, Rose-Ann’s style is instantly recognizable for its bright, inviting palette and exploration of ambiguity and the paradoxes of pleasure through her signature focus on desserts, treats, and the human figure. She states,

“Sweets, though seemingly innocent, can evoke a whirlwind of emotions — from the playful to the provocative, from innocent temptation to something almost dangerous. My goal is to capture these contrasts and invite viewers to experience their own interpretations.”

Joys of Life

In this exhibition, Rose-Ann dives into these complexities by presenting imagery that juxtaposes innocence with sophistication, and sweetness with subtle danger. Inspired by the paradoxical emotions associated with indulgence, she asks viewers to look beyond the surface to uncover their own interpretations of pleasure and beauty.

“The exhibition isn’t just about the joy of indulgences. It’s an invitation to question how and why we assign certain values to these aesthetics and experiences — whether a mouthwatering cake or a playful human form is worthy of the same artistic reverence as a more traditional piece. Through this exploration, I hope to celebrate the beauty in life’s little pleasures.”

While Joys of Life is Rose-Ann’s first solo exhibition at Landhuis Bloemhof, she has showcased her work multiple times over the years. Her notable past exhibitions at Landhuis Bloemhof include participating in various group exhibitions like Taboo (2015), Desaroyo (2016), Trickle (2019), Schots en Scheef (2021) and Sorry (2023), where her creations have left a lasting impression on visitors. She continues to make a name for herself, not only in Curaçao’s art scene but also abroad, with her unique take on pop realism resonating with viewers of all ages and backgrounds.

In addition, Rose-Ann’s work has been featured in Open Atelier Dagen (2023), art auctions, such as the Art X auction at Centrale Bank (2022) and Art Foundation Curaçao Gallery (2020).

About the artist

Born in 1991 in Curaçao, Rose-Ann Ignacio has been passionate about art since childhood, with a self-developed style that continues to evolve. Now a full-time artist, she uses her work to celebrate and challenge perceptions of beauty, pleasure, and personal expression. Her art captures contrasts — blurring the lines between playful and provocative, colorful and complex — making her one of the island’s most exciting upcoming voices in contemporary art.

Admission is free, and the exhibition will be open to the public following the opening reception until January 4, 2025.
