SAPATU! The Art of Dominoes on Curaçao
The exhibition ‘Sapatu! E arte di dominó’ na Kòrsou’ in The Curaçao Museum and the book is an ode to the dominoes game that has traditionally been played on the island and still is.
The exhibition and the book take you through the fascinating landscape of The Art of Dominoes on Curaçao.
The exhibition ‘Sapatu! E arte di dominó’ na Kòrsou’ is a collaboration between The Curaçao Museum and Wintertuin Curaçao and will open on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 7 p.m.
Wintertuin Curaçao published this interesting book SAPATU! about the art of dominoes in Curaçao, an intricate game Curaçaoans are very passionate about, together with various artists who painted, took photos, and or composed poems about the different dominoes clubs in Curaçao and we took care of bringing all these wonderful expressions of ART together in a beautiful exhibition for you at The Curaçao Museum.
The book ‘Sapatu! E arte di dominó’ na Kòrsou’ will also be presented by Wintertuin Curaçao this evening at The Curaçao Museum.
The Curaçao Museum
The Curaçao Museum, established in 1948 and housed in a former Military Hospital, a historic monument dating back to 1853, stands as the oldest museum on the island. The Curaçao Museum invites it’s visitors to embark on a captivating journey through time, exploring permanent exhibits spanning centuries that pay tribute to Curaçao’s extraordinary heritage.
The museum offers an extensive perspective on Curaçao’s history, thoughtfully presenting historical artifacts and antiques from bygone eras, along with intriguing modern artworks from international and local artists presenting variation of exciting new exhibitions on a regular basis in its many exhibition rooms ranging from local and international artists as well as well as exhibitions in collaboration with local and international Art institute’s and Museums.
As the visitor’s experience extends beyond the museum walls, the surrounding, serene botanical garden showcases sculptures of past freedom fighters along with modern artworks from both local and international artists in an inspiring environment. In addition to its primary exhibition, the museum hosts other fascinating expositions, including the SNIP Gallery, dedicated to the plane that made the pioneering transatlantic flight from Schiphol to Curaçao in 1934.
